“After the announcement of the plant closing, I really did not know what I was going to do.”

All Success Stories:

My Journey

After the announcement of the plant closing, I really did not know what I was going to do. Factory or labor work was all I have ever known. Even thru the meetings with Trade and WIA, things really did not make a lot of sense. How could going back to school possibly change my life?

After meeting with Sandra Lee, I decided that the Health Information Technology program at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center would be my best option. Even though I did not understand exactly how the program worked, the leadership at Job and Family Services help guide me in the right path.

The first quarter of school had to be the most difficult. It made me question if I had made the right choice or not. With support from my wife, instructors and friends, every day, week month and quarter became easier and easier.

The thought of actually working in the Healthcare field really did not hit me until the middle of fourth quarter. Soon school was ending and the funding and help that has helped me get to this point was going to be ending.  With no offices hiring in the area, the ones that were wanted couple years of experience, I started to wonder if returning to factory work is what I was really meant to do.

After completing my internship at Orthopedic Associates of Bellefontaine, I was felt that working in a medical office would fit me fine. The staff there was truly amazing and I learned a lot from them. The big question was where to find a job.

On November 22, I received an email from Kevin Anderson, he stated the facility he worked in was hiring. I sent him an email and later received a phone call for an interview. The interview went really well I thought. I assumed since I was still in school, they would not consider me for the position. To my surprise, the next day, the call came with a job offer. It seemed too good to be true.

Thanks to the staff of Job and Family services, Trade, WIA, OHP, Orthopedics of Bellefontaine and all friends and family, especially my wife, who was also going to school to become a nurse, this would not be possible. I have learned a whole new world that I truly love.

On December 16, 2010, I graduated Ohio Hi-Point HIT program with Academic Honors. On December 20, 2010, I started my new job at Management and Network Service as a Care Coordination Assistant.  I am going on my second month of employment and have enjoyed every minute. I look forward spending many years there.

Thanks again to all who helped me along the way,
