Quick Tips

The career counselors of the WorkPlus Regional One-Stop System are ready to help you look for a new job or plan for a new career.

Our Mission

The WORKPLUS Regional One-Stop System

will promote, integrate, and coordinate workforce development services throughout the five county area.  Through collaborations with businesses, job seekers, and community partners we will be the focal point of employment and training activities.

We offer you a few simple tips to help prepare you for the process.

If you’ve lost your job…

  • It’s natural to be angry or depressed. However, a positive attitude will help you move on to your next stage in life.

  • Look at this as an opportunity for positive change. There are aspects about most jobs that we don’t like. Here’s a chance to find a job that involves what you most like to do.

  • With a positive attitude you’re not likely to burn bridges. Supervisors may be more likely to give you a good recommendation and maybe even forward you some job leads.

  • A positive attitude about your situation will carry over into how you present yourself in job interviews.

Suggestions for your job search…

  • Take a break in a quiet place and make a list of the skills you’ve acquired at work and other areas of your life. This will help you narrow down the types of jobs you want to look for and build your resume.

  • Network with people you know. Eighty percent of job openings aren’t advertised, and they may know about opportunities.

  • Write multiple resumes to cover each specific type of job for which you are applying.  You will need to spotlight your skills and achievements that are pertinent to each position.

  • Approach a job interview as a conversation, not an interrogation. Relax and connect with the interviewer, speaking clearly and confidently.

  • Listen carefully to the interviewer’s questions, and if uncertain what the interviewer is asking, rephrase the question in your own words and ask if you grasped the question accurately.
