will promote, integrate, and coordinate workforce development services throughout the five county area. Through collaborations with businesses, job seekers, and community partners we will be the focal point of employment and training activities.
We also provide companies Rapid Response services in the event of layoffs. Working with the employer, our Rapid Response team meets with laid off workers to inform them about services - including training and education - to help them gain new employment as quickly as possible.
Financial assistance is available through the Workforce Investment Act to help pay for career training for dislocated workers who are unemployed due to layoff, business closing or other reasons. In some cases, this funding covers all career training and education costs. One-stop centers also can help dislocated workers find scholarships to help cover training expenses.
Training and education funding also is available through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program, specifically for people who have lost their jobs as the result of foreign trade, for instance, when a plant is closed or jobs are moved out of the country due to foreign competition.
